Sheryl Zimmerman, PhD
Dr. Zimmerman is a professor of social work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and senior research scientist and co-director for the Program on Aging, Disability and Long-Term Care of the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research. She received her undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (1979) and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Chicago (1980). She stayed on at the University of Illinois, Chicago to receive her Ph.D. in Social work (1988).

Dr. Zimmerman has a long history of developing and maintaining research relationships with long-term care (LTC) facilities. She is trained in social gerontology and has worked and consulted to LTC settings; additional expertise is in the fields of health services research, sychosocial aspects of health, methods and measurement of institutional- and resident-level variables.
