National Palliative Care Research Center

Without research, palliative care is an art, not a science.

Christina K. Ullrich, MD

Attending Physician

Christina K. Ullrich, MD
Dr. Ullrich is a fellow in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children's Hospital Boston/Dana Farber Cancer Institute and a clinical fellow in Pediatric Palliative Care at Harvard Medical School. She received her undergraduate education at Dartmouth College (1990-1994) and her M.D. from Harvard Medical School (1997-2001). She completed residency training in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital Boston/Dana Farber Cancer Institute (2001-2004).

Dr. Ullrich's clinical and research experiences throughout her professional training have naturally progressed towards a career dedicated to clinical investigation in pediatric palliative care because it provides unequaled opportunities to study and service in pediatrics and specifically in a population of children vulnerable to suffering. She was initially introduced to the clinical aspects of palliative care as a hospice volunteer prior to attending medical school and found working through the challenges of the rich psychosocial and ethical concerns and the complexities of symptom management to be particularly rewarding when caring for patients at the end of life. For Dr. Ullrich, the opportunities to make a positive impact on patients' lives at such a critical time for them and their families has made this challenging work all the more worthwhile.
